The VeBiS Career Day

The VeBiS Career Day was founded in 2006 and increased in size and target audience ever since. The VeBiS Career Day's mission is to present and clarify different career paths and opportunities for life sciences university students and group leaders. Located at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), the VeBiS Career Day invites various companies, institutes, and organizations to present its audience alternatives to the academic career. This opens new horizons for the students' professional future.

The program consists of 40 minutes presentations from every participating company, followed by a panel discussion and an apéritif to give life science students, the chance to mingle with the company representatives. On this opportunity, individual questions can be asked as well.
At the next Career Day the presenting companies will also be present with a stall over lunch time.

In contrast to other career fairs, the VeBiS Career Day is focusing purely on life sciences.

PhD Apéro

Many senior students wish to have more information about PhD programs, application and procedures. Therefore, the VeBiS Alumni Commission organizes an informal information event for Biology Master Students each year in October.

Several faculty members are present and share their views on questions such as the following:

  • Why should I do a PhD?
  • What is the benefit? What should I learn during a PhD? What should be the goal of a PhD? Experiences? Advices?
  • Where should I do a PhD?
  • How to choose a university/research group? How to choose a supervisor? Recommendations?
  • How should I apply for a PhD?
  • What is a PhD-Program? How do I apply? What do they look for? Deadlines? Funding?

In addition, the guest speakers try to answer student’s questions that come up during the subsequent discussion.

The Event is completed by an apéritif, at which the students have the opportunity to talk and ask specific questions concerning a PhD to the speakers in a relaxed atmosphere.

As a further help, you can find on our website a list of current PhD programs from all around Europe.

Guided Tours

The VeBiS Aumni Commission is responsible for organizing visits to the private industry, where students from different levels have the possibility to get an insight into the organization and research programs of various companies in the life science sector, while also getting information about clerkships and internships.
