A fully funded PhD position in Systems Biology "Systems modelling of translational control" is available for October 2010 entry at the Centre for Molecular Processing at the University of Kent. The studentship will involve systems biology modelling of translational control mechanisms. The list of genetic diseases caused by mutations that affect translation is significant and includes various cancers and type II diabetes. Systems biology is a new discipline that employs a biology-based computational approach that focuses on complex interactions in biological systems to investigate the differences between healthy and diseased phenotypes. This project is a part of ongoing collaboration between systems modelling, translational control and control engineering groups. The position offers an exciting opportunity to apply modern developments in systems biology to current needs of biotechnology and medicine. The successful applicant will be based at the Systems Biology group (Dr Najl Valeyev), Centre for Molecular Processing and will also be jointly co-supervised by Prof Sarah Spurgeon (Engineering and Digital Arts) and Dr Tobias von der Haar (Biosciences). Kent University offers an exciting and stimulating opportunity to interact with a broader range of academic groups both within and outside the University as well as with established industrial partners. Applications are sought from motivated individuals looking to work in an interdisciplinary environment with education, experience or interest in systems biology, biophysics, bioinformatics, engineering, physics, computing, maths, biochemistry or biology. Application To apply please visit www.kent.ac.uk/studying/postgrad/gradapply.html Please select Biochemistry as the Programme of Study For further information please contact Dr Najl Valeyev ( n. valeyev [ät] kent .ac .uk ) Web http://www.kent.ac.uk/stms/cmp/staff/nv/bio.html |
